KINGSTON, R.I. - Senior Scott Brown (Portland, Maine) went 3-for-4 while classmates Dave Savard (Nashua, N.H.) and Ryan Cunningham (Centreville, Va.) each had two hits as the Rhode Island baseball team was defeated by Harvard, 9-4, on Tuesday, April 10 at Bill Beck Field in Kingston, R.I.

The Crimson jumped out to a three-run lead in the first inning after back-to-back singles to center by Jeff Stoeckel and Brendan Byrne and a homerun by Matt Vance.

Junior Zach Zaneski (Waterford, Conn.) put URI on the board in the bottom of the second when he plated senior Eric Larson (Bradenton, Fla.) with a single to left field. The following inning, junior Shaun Hagey (Ephrata, Pa.) stole third after a lead-off double to right and scored Rhody's second run on a Cunningham single to right.

The Crimson went on to score five runs on six hits in the top of the fourth and managed to keep Rhody off the board until the bottom of the sixth inning when Savard's RBI single plated redshirt sophomore Chris Parkinson (Utica, N.Y.) to make the score 8-3.

With two outs in the top of the seventh, Harvard extended its lead to 9-3 when Tom Stack-Babich reached the plate on a URI error.

The Rams scored the game's final run bottom of the inning when Cunningham reached the plate on senior Dan Tucker's (Warwick, R.I.) single to right.

With the 9-4 loss, Rhody dropped to 8-18 on the season while the Crimson improved to 10-11.

URI is back in action tomorrow afternoon with a 3:00 p.m. game at Connecticut (13-16). Cox Sports will air the game in both Rhode Island and Connecticut, on tape delay, Thursday, April 12 at 7:00 p.m.
