Box Score

KINGSTON, R.I. -- Thorunn Jonsdottir tallied a goal and two assists, helping pace Rhode Island past New Hampshire, 3-0, tonight at the URI Soccer Complex.

The senior midfielder tallied her fourth goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 75th minute and set up the two other scores for the Rams for the evening.

Freshman Jessica Babice got Rhody on the scoreboard late in the first half, as she was able to take a pass from Jonsdottir and maneuver past UNH goalkeeper Ally Yost, who had come out of the box to make a play on the ball. It was Babice's team-leading fifth tally of the season. URI led 1-0 at the break.

After the Jonsdottir score on the PK made it 2-0, Deb Nelson added the third goal of the night for the home team on a shot that bounced off the left post and past the goal line. She look a pass from Jonsdottir on the right side and put it in for her second goal of the year.

Jackie Fede was terrific in goal tonight for the Rams, earning her second shutout of the season. She stopped both shots-on-goal, but also made several outstanding plays. Early in the second half, she came out and stopped a point-blank shot by UNH's Shaunna Kaplan.

"Our defense was outstanding tonight and Jackie played terrific in goal. Our back line really did a great job limiting chances for a talented UNH team." head coach Zac Shaw said. "Offensively, we were able to convert on some of the opportunities we created. I thought overall, we did a nice job with setting up, spacing, and using the whole field. It was a great team effort."

For the game, URI outshot New Hampshire, 11-8, while UNH attempted four corner kicks to Rhody's one. UNH's Yost made three stops in goal for the Wildcats.

With the win, the Rams improve to 4-2-1 on the season and return to action on Sunday, Sept. 23 at 1 p.m.
