KINGSTON, R.I. -- Jessica Babice's goal early in the first half proved to be the difference as the Rhode Island women's soccer team captured a 1-0 victory over Temple this afternoon at the URI Soccer Complex.
Babice tallied the gamewinner in the fourth minute of the match, taking a pass from Amanda Thomas and putting a quick shot into the back left corner, past the attempt to stop it by Temple goalkeeper Kara Williams.
Despite the low score, the Rams had the decided advantage offensively through the match. Rhody outshot the Owls, 21-3, and attempted four corner kicks to Temple's zero. URI was whistled for offsides five times.
Babice also led URI in shots, with eight. Deb Nelson took six shots, while Kristie Moltz and Dora Larusdottir each took two shots.
Rhody goalkeeper Jackie Fede registered her third shutout victory in the last four games - and her fourth overall for the season. She played all 90:00 in net, registering two saves.
The win - Rhody's fourth in a row - improves the team's record to 7-2-1 overall and 2-0 in Atlantic 10 play. The Rams return to action on Friday, Oct. 5 when they travel to Cincinnati to take on Xavier in an A-10 match.
