Rams Drop 2-0 Decision at Richmond

UNIVERSITY OF RICHMOND, Va. -- The University of Rhode Island women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision at Richmond tonight in an Atlantic 10 matchup.

The Spiders got on the scoreboard first in the 19th minute, as Jessie Wolfe took a cross pass from Sarah Hilt and was able to beat URI goalkeeper Jackie Fede. UR would lead 1-0 at the break.

Adrienne Ruhe Lischke's shot in the 35th minute was Rhody's best scoring opportunity of the first frame. The sophomore's shot hit the crossbar at the 35:11 mark.

In the second half, Wolfe scored again, tallying an insurance goal in the 79th minute again off a crossing pass (Nora Mann). Rhody frosh Stephanie Santos and Erese Fair both had shots-on-goal in the period.

For the game, Richmond outshot Rhode Island, 11-9 - including a 7-2 edge in shots on goal. Fede made five saves, while her counterpart Andrea Young stopped two shots. Richmond attempted three corner kicks, to URI's one. Rhody was whistled for 10 fouls, while UR committed six fouls. The Rams' bench was assessed a yellow card in the 73rd minute.

The loss - Rhody's third in a row in league play - dropped its record to 4-7-1 overall and 0-3 in the conference. The Rams have yet to tally a goal in A-10 action.

URI returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 5 when it takes on George Washington in the Nation's Capital at 1 p.m.
