BRONX, N.Y. - Senior Safi Mojidi (Silver Spring, Md.) scored a team-high 13 points and hit the game-winning shot with three seconds left in the game as the Rhode Island women's basketball defeated Fordham, 57-55, Wednesday afternoon at Rose Hill Gym. Senior Whitney Hollis (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and junior Sierra Cooper (Blairs, Va.) each recorded seven rebounds in the win.

Fordham (0-23, 0-8 Atlantic 10) netted the game's first basket but Rhode Island went on to outscore the Rams, 16-10, through the first ten minutes and took its largest lead of the game (six points) on a layup by freshman Megan Shoniker (Rochester, N.Y.) midway through the first half. Fordham then used a 12-4 run to take a 24-22 lead before junior Amanda McGrew (Santa Monica, Calif.) hit back-to-back jumpers and Mojidi sank a pair of free throws to put Rhody up, 26-22, at the break.

In the second half, Annie Zopf scored eight-straight points for Fordham to cut URI's lead to two (45-43) with 9:36 remaining in the game and back-and-forth play by both teams saw the score tied six more times before Mojidi put the Rams ahead 57-55 with three ticks left on the clock. Sophomore Lindsay Harris (Upper Marlboro, Mass.) then intercepted Fordham's attempt at a long inbounding pass to secure the Rhody win.

For the game, URI shot 41.1% (24-58) from the floor and was 6-for-8 from the line while out-rebounding Fordham by a 35-30 margin. Megan Mahoney led the way for Fordham, scoring a game-high 22 points.
