Reiss Steps Down to Become Florida Head Coach

KINGSTON, R.I. - Tammi Reiss will step down as head coach of the University of Rhode Island women's basketball team and will become the head coach at the University of Florida, it was announced Monday.

Reiss led the Rams to a program-record 28 victories and their first NCAA Championship appearance in 30 years this season. She was the 2026 Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year, her third time winning the honor in seven seasons at Rhode Island.

"Tammi showed what is possible for the women's basketball program at URI," Rhode Island Vice President/Director of Athletics Pat Lyons said. "Her body of work speaks for herself, and to say she is leaving the program in a significantly better place would be an understatement. We all wish her success with the next stage of her career."

In seven seasons at Rhode Island, Reiss had a record of 138-73, and her .653 winning percentage is the highest in program history.

She led the team to a pair of regular-season titles (2022-23 and 2025-26) plus the program's first Atlantic 10 Championship title this season. In addition to this year's NCAA Championship bid, Reiss also led Rhode Island to back-to-back WNIT bids in 2022 and 2023. The 2023 team reached the WNIT Super 16.

"This has been one of the most difficult decisions I have ever made in my life for many reasons. Over the past seven years, my family and I have built lifelong friendships and created memories that filled our life with love and joy," Reiss said. "Rhode Island - and in particular, Thorr Bjorn - believed in me and gave me the chance to be a first-time head coach, and the University supported and believed in our program's vision. That commitment to our program enabled us to build something special that we can all be proud of."

Reiss will be officially introduced as Florida's head coach at a press conference Tuesday morning.

Rhode Island will begin a national search for its next head coach immediately.
