KINGSTON, R.I. -- Adrienne Ruhe Lischke and Sarah Helldoerfer each tallied second half goals, helping Rhode Island to push past Vermont, 2-0, at the URI Soccer Complex on Wednesday night.
Ruhe Lischke scored the first goal of the game in the 71st minute (70:22), taking a cross pass from Erese Fair on the right side and toeing it past UVM goalkeeper Eliza Bradley. It was Ruhe Lischke's third goal of the season - tying her with Kassandra Spitler for the team lead.
Sarah Helldoerfer tallied an unassisted insurance goal, on a strong play through the box in the 85th minute (84:01). The senior intercepted a pass, dribbled it through several Vermont defenders, and fired a shot into the low left corner. It was her second goal of the season.
The two teams played to a scoreless tie through the first 45:00 minutes of action. URI outshot UVM, 9-4 overall - including a 7-2 edge in shots-on-goal - during the opening frame.
Overall for the match, the Rams outshot the Catamounts, 22-9 (12-2 s-o-g). Bradley made 10 saves for Vermont. Rhode Island's Jackie Fede notched her second consecutive shutout victory, making two saves in the process. URI was whistled for 11 fouls and attempted seven corner kicks.
Rhode Island returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 21 when it hosts Manhattan at the URI Soccer Complex, beginning at 1 p.m.
