PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- The University of Rhode Island dropped a 1-0 decision at Duquesne, in an Atlantic 1-0 matchup on the road this afternoon.
It marked the second straight 1-0 loss for Rhody, which dropped the Rams to 4-6-1 overall and 0-2 in A-10 play on the season.
URI had two scoring chances midway through the first half, as Kaylen Shimoda and Stephanie Santos each put shots on goal in the 29th and 30th minutes, respectively.
The Dukes tallied the lone goal of the match in the 57th minute, as Kimberly Roncase took a Chelsea Behling pass and headed it past URI goalkeeper Jackie Fede. For the match, Fede made two saves. The Dukes' Brittany Findley (three saves) and Virginia Bondi (one save) combined on the shutout.
Agnes Arnadottir put a shot on goal in the 84th minute before Rhody had its final opportunity for the equalizer. Kassandra Spitler attempted a corner kick in the 89th minute, which Alexis Veith was able to handle but her shot went high.
Both Rhode Island and Duquesne attempted eight shots, with Rhody putting four of them on goal. The Rams attempted one corner kick and were whistled offsides four times.
The Rams return to action on Friday, October 3 at Richmond.
