ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- Rhode Island dropped a heartbreaking 1-0 decision on Sunday afternoon at Saint Louis in an Atlantic 10 matchup.

SLU's Kristen Sapienza scored the gamewinner at the 83:14 mark, lofting a shot over URI goalkeeper Tara Murphy from 25 yards out.

A defensive battle for much of the match, neither team could find the back of the net until late. In the first half, Saint Louis outshot the Rams, 9-1, but URI goalkeeper Tara Murphy played a solid 90:00 in net, making eight saves.

In the second half, the Rams had several opportunities early on - as SLU's Hannah Perry stopped a Kaylen Shimoda shot at the 48:49 mark, and shots by Alexis Veith and Ina Bjorklid over the next two minutes went wide.

After the Billikens' goal, Stephanie Santos (85:53) and Jennifer Barrientos (88:01) put shots on-goal, but they were stopped by Perry.

SLU outshot Rhody, 19-10 for the match - including a 9-3 advantage in shots on-goal.

Rhode Island returns to action on Friday, Oct. 9 at home against Fordham in an A-10 matchup.
