Rhody Falls 47-35 at Boston University

BOSTON - Junior Megan Shoniker scored a game-high 13 points, but it was not enough as the Rhode Island women's basketball team dropped a 47-35 decision at Boston University Wednesday night at Case Gymnasium.

Sophomore forward Lara Gaspar also scored in double figures as she scored 11 points. Gaspar also pulled down 12 rebounds, which tied a career-high as she posted her second double-double of the year.

Junior Caitlin Kearns posted a game and career-high 13 rebounds. As a team, URI outrebounded BU 53-30.

In the first half, Boston University jumped out to 10-2 lead in the opening eight minutes. The Terriers would then go on a 17-7 run for the remainder of the half to take a 27-9 lead into the locker room.

Rhody outrebounded the Terriers 23-15 in the opening half and held a 4-0 advantage in fast break points.

In the second half, the Rams cut the Terrier lead to 29-14 with 16:12 to go in the game, but BU went on a 7-0 over the next four minutes to take a 36-14 lead with 12:06 remaining

The Rams fought back in the final eight minutes of the game as they outscored BU 18-5. Rhody outshot BU in the second half (28.6%-22.2%)

URI returns to action Saturday as it heads to Northeastern. Tipoff is set for 2:30 p.m. at Matthews Arena.
