NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - The Rhode Island women's basketball team (3-4) picked up its third win in its last four games as it downed Central Connecticut 64-52 Wednesday night at Detrick Gymnasium.

Junior guard Megan Shoniker scored a season-high 22 points as she connected on 6-of-10 shots from the field. Shoniker was one of four players who finished in double figures. Twelve of Shoniker's 22 points came in the final four minutes of the game.

Senior forward Andrea Buck, freshman guard Ashley Rivera and freshman guard Anisha Wilson also poured in 10 points apiece. Buck and senior forward Lindsay Harris also pulled down eight rebounds apiece.

Rhode Island outshot Central Connecticut 46.8-30.1% from the field and held a 42.9-11.1% advantage from beyond the arc.

URI trailed by two (13-11) in the early going, but responded by going on an 8-0 run over the next three minutes to take a 19-13 lead. The Rams would not trail for the remainder of the game.

The Rams would go on to open up 10 point lead (31-21) with under a minute to go in the first half. CCSU scored four points in the final 30 seconds and trailed by six heading into the locker room.

In the second half, CCSU trimmed the URI lead to two points with 14:27 to go in the game, but that was as close as the Blue Devils would get.

Rhody took a 10 point lead with under a minute and a half to go in the game to secure the win.

URI returns to action on Saturday as it welcomes in-state rival Providence. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m.
