KINGSTON, R.I. - The Rhode Island women's soccer team fell to New Hampshire, 2-0, Sunday afternoon at the URI Soccer Complex. Rhody held a 17-7 advantage is shots, but the Wildcats scored once in each half to take the win.
UNH first got on the board at the 36:53 mark when Alli Rozelle received a cross from Monique Lamotte and dribbled through Rhody's defense in the box before finding the back of the net on a low shot to the left corner.
URI's best chance in the first frame had come in the 16th minute when sophomore Stephanie Santos (Warwick, R.I.) brought UNH goalkeeper Allison Yost off her line to stop a quick shot from close range. Yost was unable to control the rebound and Santos fired off another shot which was booted away by a New Hampshire defender.
Midway through the second frame, the Wildcats increased their lead to 2-0 on an unassisted tally by Cassie Guerra.
Sophomore Courtney David (St. Catherine's, Ont.), junior Adrienne Ruhe Lischke (Kitchener, Ont.) and freshman Ashley Evangelista (Methuen, Mass.) each had shots stopped by Yost in the second half.
Yost finished with six saves on the afternoon while junior Jackie Fede (Cheshire, Conn.) turned away one shot for the Rams.
The loss drops URI's record to 0-2-0 while UNH improves to 1-0-0.
Rhode Island returns to action at Missouri on Friday, Sept. 4.
