PHILADELPHIA -- Stephanie Santos and Alexis Veith each tallied their first goals of the season as Rhode Island earned a 2-1 victory at Temple on Sunday afternoon.

Santos got the scoring going for the match at the 11:23 mark, beating Temple goalkeeper Kara Williams one-on-one into the right corner. She converted a pass from Ina Bjorklid.

Veith made it 2-0 in the 42nd minute, taking a Jennifer Barrientos pass and blasting a shot from 18 yards out into the upper 90. The Rams and Owls each attempted five shots in the first half.

Temple made it 2-1 in the 62nd minute, as Stephanie Ferretti converted a corner kick over the head of URI goalkeeper Tara Murphy. The Owls managed to put one more shot on-goal, but Murphy again made the stop.

She ended the day with six saves, while allowing the one goal. Her counterpart Kara Williams made three stops, while allowing two goals. Both teams attempted 10 shots on the afternoon and Rhode Island had five corner kicks.

Rhode Island will return to action on Friday, Oct. 2 when it travels to Charlotte.
