LAWRENCE, Kan. -- Amanda Thomas tallied a first half goal for Rhode Island as it dropped a 3-1 decision at #23 Kansas on Sunday afternoon.
Thomas, a senior from State College, Pa., headed in the Rams' lone goal off a free kick at the 43:01 mark of the game. Kaylen Shimoda helped to set up the goal with a perfectly placed entry into the box.
Kansas got on the scoreboard first, scoring off a corner kick in the 37th minute before Thomas' tally tied it at 1-1 at the break.
In the second half, KU's Monica Dolinsky converted a deflected free kick in the 58th minute for the eventual gamewinner. The Jayhawks added a late goal in the 88th minute to make the final score 3-1.
Jackie Fede played all 90 minutes in goal for Rhode Island, making five saves. KU split time with goalkeepers Kat Liebetrau and Julie Hanley each playing 45:00 and each registering two saves.
The Jayhawks outshot Rhody, 18-8, including an 8-5 advantage in shots on-goal. Both teams attempted three corner kicks.
Rhode Island returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 13 when it hosts Towson at the URI Soccer Complex. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
