HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. -- Rhode Island dropped a 1-0 decision to St. John's on Sunday afternoon in the second game of the Hofstra Invitational.
Rhody (0-4-1) goalkeeper Sasha Reiber stopped four shots on the day, allowing just the lone goal in the 75th minute. SJU's Runa Stefansdottir converted a long, diagonal shot from 15 yards out which just got under the crossbar.
Both teams attempted seven shots in the first 45:00 minutes of play, with the Rams getting three on-goal.
Red Storm goalkeeper Kristin Russell stopped all five attempts against her on the afternoon - as Kaylen Shimoda, Courtney David, Adrienne Ruhe Lischke, Nikkita Persaud and Alison Fitzsimmons all had scoring chances.
URI had six corner kick attempts to St. John's two. The two teams combined for 16 fouls.
Rhode Island returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 12 when it hosts Maine at the URI Soccer Complex, beginning at 1 p.m.
