KINGSTON, R.I. – Rhode Island looks to bounce back from a losing-streak this weekend, when they host a pair of A-10 matches against La Salle (Friday, 7 p.m.) and Fordham (Sunday, 1 p.m.). Both games will be played at the URI Soccer Complex.
The Rhody-La Salle Series:
- Rhode Island leads: 11-3-1
- Last meeting: Rhode Island beat the Explorers 3-1 in Philadelphia, Pa. (Oct. 29, 2010).
- Current Streak: Rhode Island won in 2005, 2006 and 2007; La Salle in 2008 and 2009; Rhode Island won last season.
The Rhody-Fordham Series:
- Rhode Island leads: 9-5-1
- Last meeting: Rhode Island was shutout 2-0 in the Bronx, N.Y. (Oct. 31, 2010).
- Current Streak: Fordham - in 2007 and 2008
The Rhode Island Rams (5-7-1):
- Were picked to finish 11th in the Atlantic 10 preseason coaches poll.
- Have surpassed last season's win mark (three), with five so far.
- Were shutout in their last four games: vs. Brown and in A-10 play at Massachusetts, Saint Louis and Charlotte.
- Are led, offensively, by senior Stephanie Santos' five goals, with senior Alexis Veith and freshman Dariann Sellitti each scoring two.
The La Salle Explorers (12-0-1):
- Were chosen in the A-10 preseason coaches poll to take fourth place.
- Have already improved from their 2010 record (11-9-2).
- Come to the URI Soccer Complex boasting an 11-game win streak, only earning a 0-0 tie on Aug. 26, their second match of the season, against Drexel.
- Of the 13 games La Salle has played, they have shutout every single opponent except Dayton, on Oct. 7, when La Salle grabbed a 2-1 overtime win.
- Are led, offensively, by Kelsey Haycook, who's scored 11 goals, followed by Renee Washington with eight.
The Fordham Rams (7-5-2):
- Were selected to finish sixth in the A-10 preseason coaches poll.
- Went 8-10-1 last season.
- Come to Kingston having lost on Oct. 9 against No. 15 Dayton, 2-1.
- Kristina Maksuti leads the Rams with nine goals and five assists, holding 23 points; Annie Worden follows, having scored five. Goalkeeper Rachel Suther has grabbed 53 saves on the season in 12 games played.
