How it Happened

During Rhode Island's final home game of the 2011 season, on senior day, Jennifer Barrientos tallied an unassisted goal at the 26-minute marker, grabbing her first of the season. Then in the 63rd minute, senior Nikkita Persaud ran the ball up the right side, crossed it into the box, and senior Alexis Veith nailed her shot in the back left of the net, earning her third of the season.

  • The victory is Rhode Island's first Atlantic 10 win of the season, improving the Rams to 6-9-1 overall and 1-5-0 in A-10.
  • Duquesne falls to 3-12-1 overall and 2-5-0 in A-10 play. The Dukes are now 0-7-0 away this season.
  • Rhode Island outshot the Dukes 13-5. The Rams recorded 9-1 in the first half, with the teams then each making four in the second.

  • One yellow card was issued to Rhode Island's Madison VanDine at 88:27.

  • Rhode Island's win improves its all-time record against the Duquesne Dukes to 7-3-3 in 13 meetings. Rhody's last victory against the Dukes was previously on Oct. 27, 2006 in Kingston, R.I.
