Rhody Closes Out the Season With 2-0 Win at George Washington

How it Happened:

Marisa Ammaturo tallied her first collegiate goal just 43 seconds into the second half of play, which game the Rams all the scoring they needed to close out the 2011 season with a victory. In the 55th minute, Dariann Sellitti found the back of the net, beating GW keeper Lindsey Rowe for her third tally of the season. Nikkita Persaud assisted on the goal.

What it Means:

Rhode Island closes out the 2011 season with a 7-10-2 overall record. The Rams closed the season strong, with a 2-1-1 record over their final four games. URI also finished with a 2-6-1 mark in A-10 play.

Inside the Box Score and Beyond:

  • Rhode Island's victory over the Colonials was its second road victory of the season.
  • Goalkeeper Brooke Messier registered the first shutout of her career. She made three saves in 90 minutes of action vs. George Washington.
  • With Ammaturo's goal in the 46th minute, it marked the ninth different Rhody player to tally at least one goal this year.
  • Ammaturo and Sellitti had four of the team's six shots on-goal.
