Rae, Elliott Named to Capitol One NCAA Division I Academic All-District First Team

KINGSTON, R.I. - Seniors Matt Rae and Kyle Elliott have been named to the Capitol One NCAA Division I Academic All-District First Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced Thursday.

Rae and Elliott are among 25 Division I players from District I to receive the honor. To be eligible for the team, student-athletes must carry a 3.3 or better grade point average, be a starter or key reserve and be at least a sophomore in academic standing.

This is the third consecutive season Rae has made the squad. The senior captain has a 3.71 grade point average in biological sciences. For the season, the York, Pa. native has 44 tackles, including 5.5 for loss.

Elliot, from Cresskill, N.J., has started 17 games on the offensive line for Rhode Island the last two seasons, including all nine games at right guard this year. He came to URI as a quarterback, then played defensive end before making the switch from defense to offense early last season. Elliott has a 3.63 grade point average in finance.

Capitol Academic All-District program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. As first-team selections, Rae and Elliott are eligible for the Academic All-America Team ballot.

Rhode Island plays at nationally-ranked James Madison Saturday (3 p.m.).
