KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhody opens the 2011-12 season at Delaware on Friday, Nov. 11. Tip-off at the Bob Carpenter Center is set for 7:00 p.m.

The game will mark just the third ever meeting between the Rams and Blue Hens, and the first since 1992 when Delaware picked up a 79-66 victory on its home court. The only other time the two squads met was in 1985, when Rhody posted a 58-55 win at the Warner Classic in Fairfield, Conn.

Delaware was 20-14 overall last season and finished tied for fifth in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) with a 10-8 mark. The Blue Hens advanced to the CAA championship game - where they fell to James Madison - before competing in the Women's NIT Tournament. There, they lost a close first-round battle with eventual tournament champion Toledo.

Returning all five starters this year, Delaware was tabbed the CAA preseason favorite and also earned a vote in the Associated Press Preseason Top-25 Poll. The Blue Hens are centered around national Player of the Year candidate Elena Delle Donne, a guard/forward who helped lead the USA to a gold medal at the World University Games in China this past summer. All-CAA guard Lauren also averaged double figures last year (10.8 ppg) while pacing the team with 85 assists and 35 three pointers.

URI has posted a 17-19 mark in season openers. The Rams' most recent victory in a season-opener came last season when URI cruised past Colgate, 59-47. In that game, Lara Gaspar (11p/12r) and Sherrie Session (10p/10r) each posted a double-double while Megan Shoniker led all players with 18 points.
