Rams Face Friars on Wednesday Night at The Ryan Center

KINGSTON, R.I. - The Rhode Island women's basketball team returns to the Ryan Center for a Wednesday night matchup with in-state rival Providence. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. with URI student radio providing the call live on RIU2.

RHODE ISLAND vs. PROVIDENCE
Rhode Island - which is 9-33 in the all-time series with PC - has won two of the last seven meetings between the two teams dating back to the 2003-04 season. The last time the Rams and Friars met - on Nov. 17, 2010 - PC posted a 71-40 victory. Megan Shoniker led URI with a team-high 14 points while Lara Gaspar chipped in with 8p/8r and Ashley Rivera added nine points and three assists.

COACH INGLESE vs. PROVIDENCE
Third-year head coach Cathy Inglese has turned in a 13-9 all-time mark against Providence. As the head coach at Boston College, Inglese was 13-7 against the Friars. At URI, she is 0-2.

SCOUTING THE FRIARS
Providence College comes to Kingston looking for its first win of the season after dropping a pair of games to Boston University (65-62) and Virginia (55-38). PC - which was picked to finish 14th (of 16) in the Big East preseason poll - is led by Teya Wright (15.5 ppg/8.0 rpg) and Rachel Barnes (9.5 ppg/6.5 rpg). Symone Roberts leads the Friars in steals (7) while Danielle Pearson has dished out a team-leading eight assists.

BOONE NAMED TO ATLANTIC 10 HONOR ROLL
Junior Ajanae Boone was named to the Atlantic 10 Weekly Honor Roll on Nov. 14, after leading the Rams in scoring in games against Delaware (16p) and Maine (11p). For the week, Boone averaged 13.5 points and shot 50-percent (7-14) from long range.

WHITTAKER SHINES IN FIRST CAREER START
Freshman Teneka Whittaker earned her first career start as a point guard in the Rams' home-opener vs. Maine. The Poughkeepsie , N.Y. native posted a team-leading 11 points, six assists and five steals while also adding three rebounds and a blocked shot in 35 minutes on the floor.

BOONE PICKS UP WHERE SHE LEFT OFF
Junior Ajanae Boone, who was one of the Rams' most improved players in 2010-11, finished the season leading the team with a .375 three-point field goal percentage. In Rhody's season opener at Delaware, the Philadelphia native posted a career-high 16 points, including four 3-pointers, and followed that performance with a team-leading 11 points vs. Maine. Entering this season, Boone had reached double figures just once (10 points vs. Charlotte - 1/19/11).

RHODE WARRIORS
Rhode Island opens the 2011-12 season playing eight of its first 10 games on the road, including seven straight away games from Nov. 19-Dec. 4. The Rams will compete at home just twice in November and twice in December. Overall, Rhody's non-conference schedule consists of five home games and 10 contests away from the Ryan Center.
