RHODE ISLAND AT THE BROWN BEAR CLASSIC
Rhody opens the month of December at the Brown Bear Classic in Providence. The Rams will face Brown on Saturday (2 p.m.) and Fairfield on Sunday (2 p.m.) - the fifth and sixth of seven consecutive road games for URI.
RHODY VS. BROWN
Rhode Island is 22-8 in the all-time series vs. Brown, winning each of the last four - and eight of the last ten - meetings between the teams. Last season, URI defeated Brown, 71-69, in double overtime at the Pizzitola Center. Lara Gaspar and Megan Shoniker combined for 50 of the team's 71 points in the win.
RHODY VS. FAIRFIELD
Against Fairfield, URI is 3-3 all time, most recently downing the Stags (52-44) last season in Fairfield. In that game, Kerry Wallack pulled down a game-high 18 rebounds for the Rams, who held the Stags to just 21 second-half points.
CATHY INGLESE VS. BROWN/FAIRFIELD
Over her 24+ years as a head coach, Cathy Inglese has compiled a 4-0 record against Brown and is 3-4 against Fairfield. At Rhode Island, Inglese has combined for a 3-1 record against the Bears (2-0) and Stags (1-1).
SCOUTING THE BEARS
Brown enters the contest having won two if its last three games, including a 61-59 overtime victory at Maine. The Bears are led by a pair of players averaging double figures: Hannah Passafuime (14.0 ppg/4.9 rpg) and Sheila Dixon (14.0 ppg/6.1 rpg). Passafuime and Dixon also lead the team with 17 assists apiece. Collectively, Brown is shooting 36.5% (144-394) from the field while averaging 37.7 rebounds per game.
SCOUTING THE STAGS
Fairfield returns to Brown looking to remain perfect at the Pizzitola Center as the Stags just posted a 63-55 win over the Bears on Wednesday night (Nov. 30). Prior to that, Fairfield had lost back-to-back games at Quinnipiac (64-55) and Vermont (65-48). The Stags are led by three players averaging double figures: Taryn Johnson (11.8 ppg/6.8 rpg), Katelyn Linney (10.4 ppg/2.6 rpg) and Desiree Pina (10.0 ppg/6.0 rpg). Pina also leads the team with 20 assists while Johnson paces the squad in rebounding and blocked shots (10). Collectively, Fairfield is shooting 35.0% (91-260) from the field while averaging 39.4 rebounds per game.
