RHODE ISLAND vs. CENTRAL CONNECTICUT
Rhode Island is 14-4 in the all-time series vs. CCSU, winning seven of the last eight meetings between the teams. The last time the Rams met the Blue Devils, Rhody posted a 64-53 win in New Britain, Conn.
COACH INGLESE vs. CENTRAL CONNECTICUT
Over her 24+ years as a head coach, Cathy Inglese has compiled a 7-5 record against Central Connecticut, going 5-5 at Vermont, 1-0 at Boston College and 1-0 at URI.
SCOUTING THE BLUE DEVILS
Central Connecticut enters the contest looking to bounce back from a 53-40 loss to Sacred on Saturday afternoon. Prior to that, the Bobcats had won four of their first five games (vs. Holy Cross, New Hampshire, UMass and Maine). CCSU is led by a trio of players averaging double figures: Kirsten Daamen (14.7ppg), Jaclyn Babe (14.5ppg) and Jessica Babe (10.2 ppg). Jessica Babe also leads the team in rebounding (7.8 rpg), assists (29) and steals (20) while Daamen has blocked a team-best 12 shots. Collectively, Central Connecticut is shooting 40.7% (140-344) from the field and is averaging 39.7 rebounds per game.
LAST TIME OUT: FAIRFIELD 66, RHODE ISLAND 56
- The Rams shot 42.9% from the field, connecting on 21-of-49 attempts while Fairfield connected at a 47.2% clip (25-53). URI netted five shots from beyond the arc, compared to Fairfield's seven.
- Fairfield held a 31-30 rebounding advantage and blocked two Rhode Island shots.
- Rhode Island outscored Fairfield 35-33 in the second half, but the first-half deficit was too much to overcome. It marked the third consecutive game where the Rams trailed by double-digits at the break but played evenly with their opponent through the second 20 minutes.
- The Stags led by 19 (51-32) midway through the second frame but a 15-3 Rhody run cut the deficit to seven with 5:19 left to play.
- Cloutier netted a game-high 16 points for the Rams. She has now led all players in scoring in back-to-back games.
- Wallack pulled down a game-high seven rebounds while Rivera matched her career-best with a game-high six assists.
- Rivera also shot 3-for-3 from long range.
- Taryn Johnson (15), Desiree Pina (15) and Katelyn Linney (12) all scored in double figures for the Stags.
