KINGSTON, R.I.
- On Wednesday night, Rhode Island looks to win its third
consecutive match, at home, when they host Brown in a
non-conference game set to begin at 7 p.m.
The Rams (5-3-1) are coming off a 5-0 shutout against Iona last
Friday evening at the URI Soccer Complex. Seniors Alexis Veith and Stephanie
Santos scored one and two goals, respectively, to give Rhody a
3-0 advantage going into the half. Veith then scored her second of
the season in the 75th minute and freshman Samantha Beck
nabbed her first collegiate goal in the 89th to finish off the
win.
Brown enters the game with a 5-2-1 overall record. The Bears
started the season going 3-0, blanking Liberty 1-0 on Sept. 2,
beating Coastal Carolina 3-1 on Sept. 4 and again earning a
shutout, 2-0, against Providence on Sept. 7. But since then the
Bears have earned one tie and two wins and two losses, falling in
back-to-back games to Sacred Heart, 3-2 on Sept. 18 and to
Massachusetts 1-0 OT on Sept. 22.
Rhode Island and Brown have met 23 times, with URI's all-time
record against the Bears standing at 7-15-1.
In Rhode Island's last meeting with Brown on Oct. 13, 2010, the
Bears took a 3-0 home win, with all goals scored in the second half
on Rhody goalkeeper Brooke
Messier.
