Inside the Box Score:

  • With the loss, Rhode Island drops to 1-14 while Brown improves to 9-4. The 1-14 start marks Rhody's slowest start to a season since 1999-2000 when the team opened with 16 consecutive losses.
  • URI shot 33.3% on the night, netting 16-of-48 attempts from the field and just one of 12 from long range. Brown, meanwhile, connected at a 40.8% (20-49) clip and was 6-of-19 from the perimeter.
  • The Bears held a 36-28 rebounding advantage, and finished with an 8-6 edge in steals.
  • 17 of URI's 40 points were scored by non-starters while Brown recorded just four bench points. Rhody's non-starters have now combined for double-digit point totals in 12 games this season.
  • Brown took its largest lead of the game (20 points) after a basket by Daniels made the score 25-5 with 6:25 remaining in the first half. However, Rhody went on to hold the Bears scoreless throughout the remainder of the period – and nearly four minutes into the second frame – to cut the led to just three (25-22) with 16:20 left on the clock.
  • The 17-0 run was URI's largest of the season. The push spanned 10:05 (6:25 in the first half, 3:40 in the second half), which is also the longest the Rams have kept an opponent off the board this season.
  • Coia led Rhody's non-starters with 10 points, marking the fifth time this season she scored in double figures.
  • Straumann came off the bench to set new career-highs in minutes (37), rebounds (3), assists (2) and steals (3).
  • Lewis earned her first career start for URI. The Rams have now used seven different starting lineups this season.
  • Daniels (14) and Clarke (13) led the Bears in scoring. Clarke also pulled down a team-high seven rebounds while Sheila Dixon led Brown in assists (4), steals (3) and blocks (1).

What's Next:
Rhode Island opens Atlantic 10 play at Dayton on January 7. The Rams are 4-16 in the all-time series vs. the Flyers, with their last win coming in the form of a 69-49 victory at the 2004 Atlantic 10 Championship in Philadelphia. Since then, URI has lost each of the last eight meetings between the teams. The last time Rhody faced Dayton (Feb. 23, 2011), the Rams suffered a 63-43 setback at the Ryan Center. In that game, Lara Gaspar recorded a team-high 12 points and nine rebounds. Over her 24+ years as a head coach, Cathy Inglese has compiled an 0-2 record against Dayton, losing both meeting with the Flyers since coming to URI.
