Rams in First Place After Day One of Rhody Invitational

Setting the Scene:

Course: Green Valley Country Club – Portsmouth, R.I. (par 71/6,830 yards)

The field: 10 teams, 62 total golfers

Weather: 46 degrees, sunny and windy

Rhode Island's Individual Results:

  • Nick Fairweather shot a team-best 76, tying him for third place overall.
  • Branden Chicorka and Andrew Fiorenzano shot a 77, both are tied for seventh place overall. Fiorenzano hit par on 12 holes, tying him for the most on the day.
  • Jeffrey Ray shot an 80 on the day, which ties him for 23rd overall.
  • Jared Adams shot an 81 and is tied for 27th.
  • The overall leader is Nathan Pereira of American International College, who shot a 73.

Rhode Island Team Results:
The Rams are in first place after Day One of the Rhody Invitational with a score of 310. Three teams are within five strokes - Sacred Heart (313), Delaware (314) and Canisius (315). Rhode Island's depth was evident, as the Rams had three players among the top seven scores in the field.

"Once again we proved just how good we can be while leaving a number of shots on the golf course," said head coach Gregg Burke. "We had a great day out of Nick Fairweather, which is something we've been accustomed to. We've reached the point in our program where any tournament is up to us."

What's Next:
Rhode Island concludes the Rhody Invitational tomorrow at Green Valley C.C. in Portsmouth, R.I. The first four teams (Rhode Island, Sacred Heart, Delaware and Canisius) tee off at 11 a.m.
