Women's Soccer Opens 2013 Season This Weekend

Box Score

KINGSTON, R.I. - The Rhode Island women's soccer team opens up the regular season on Friday Aug. 23 against the Providence College Friars at home. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at the URI Soccer Complex.

The game will be Soccer Rhode Island night. The team will be welcoming youth soccer teams and organizations across the state.

Then on Sunday the team will travel to NJIT to play the Highlanders on Lubetkin Field at Mal Simon Stadium. The game will start at 1 p.m.

Series History:

vs. Providence

  • Providence leads the all-time series 15-8. The teams have tied once.
  • Last Meeting: The Rams shut out Providence 4-0. (Aug. 31, 2007)
vs. NJIT:
  • The Rams came out on top in the only game between the two teams by a score of 1-0. (Aug. 26, 2012)
Both opposing teams, Providence and NJIT, have yet to play a game this season so both of their records stand at 0-0. Coach Michael Needham's Rams are coming off of an 11-8-1 season in 2012 and look to build on that record.

"I'm sure we'll have a great crowd in here," Needham said. "We're looking forward to it and it'll be a fun night."
