How It Happened
1st Half
Despite having a distinct advantage in time of possession, Rhode Island did not have the best opportunity in the early going. Goalkeeper Reilly Lindsey was forced to make consecutive diving saves to keep Maine off the board in the 14th minute. The Rams, known for their quick-strike capabilities, scored twice in a three minute span from the 34th-37th minute. Rhody earned a corner and Donika Murray drove a ball into the box where Amanda Nardella deflected it towards Simone Hansen, who buried it for the game's first goal. A few minutes later, when Nardella was brought down in the box, Nicole Brennan continued her hot streak as she finished a penalty kick to double the Rams lead.
2nd Half
Samantha Leyh put the game on ice early in the second half when she perfectly timed a run on a corner by Brennan and placed a stunning header past Maine keeper Claudia Dube-Trempe. The Rams continued to control play for much of the second half and earned their eighth win of the 2014 season.
