KINGSTON, R.I. – Rhode Island placed second in all three of its races and finished in a tie for eighth place overall at the Lake Natoma Invitational Sunday.

Going up against co-host Sacramento State and Loyola Marymount, the Rams had a strong showing with all three of their boats.

In the Varsity 8 race, Loyola Marymount edged Rhody by just 2.4 seconds. Things were even tighter in the Second Varsity 8, where Rhody came in less than one second – 0.7 seconds – behind Sacramento State. The Varsity 4 race also saw Sacramento State edge the Rams, this time by just 5.7 seconds.

In the final team standings, Rhode Island finished with 24 points to tie for eighth place with Loyola Marymount. No. 3 California defended its title in the event, holding off No. 2 Brown and No. 6 Stanford. Cal had 52 points, while Brown and Stanford tied with 46 points.

Rhode Island is off for the next two weeks. The Rams next compete at home on the Narrow River against Boston University and Boston College on Saturday, April 25.
