Rhody Comes Up Short in 1-0 Loss to Albany

How It Happened:
Both teams played an even first 20 minutes, before Albany tallied the first score of the game off a corner kick.  Caitlyn Paltsios served a ball into the box, left-to-right, that was corralled by Vivian Vega at the 21:05 mark.  The Great Danes took a 1-0 lead into the break.
In the second half, Rhode Island's offensive attack was on display.  The Rams attempted 10 shots with five on-goal, constantly challenging Albany goalkeeper Alana Brennan.  With 2:10 remaining, Emily Wakeford put a shot on-goal for the Rams' last, best chance to tie the score.

  • Ari Stanton attempted a team-high five shots (two on-goal).  Taylor Ross took three shots, with two on-goal.
  • Katie Nickles stopped five shots in 90:00 of play.  It was her seventh game with at least five saves.  UA keeper Alana Brennan stopped all six shots she faced.
  • The Rams outshot the Great Danes, 15-8 - including 10-3 in the final 45:00 of play.
  • Albany was whistled for 13 fouls and a yellow card (Morgan Loder, 79:00).  Rhody was called for 11 fouls.
  • The Great Danes attempted three corner kicks, while Rhody registered two corner attempts on the night.  Both teams were whistled for an offsides call.

The Rams open up Atlantic 10 play a week from tonight - Thursday, Oct. 1 - when Rhody travels to Fordham.  Game time is set for 7 p.m.
