How It Happened
Rhode Island's season ended in heartbreaking fashion as the Rams fell 1-0 on an own goal in double-overtime to Saint Joseph's in the first round of the Atlantic 10 Championship Thursday night.

Rhody - the tournament's No. 8 seed – outplayed top-seeded Saint Joseph's for large portions of the match, but the Hawks (17-1-2) ended the game when Taylor Ryan headed a corner kick from Paige Bergman in the 102nd minute. The shot went off a Rhode Island defender into the net.

The Rams (6-8-5) had several quality chances, including three late in regulation. In the 79th minute, Eydis Embla Ludviksdottir got her head on a corner kick cross from Svana Hermannsdottir, but Saint Joseph's keeper Grace Bendon was just able to stop it. In the 87th minute, Emily Wakeford lofted a long shot that Bendon just tipped off the crossbar. Wakeford nearly struck again in the final minute of regulation when she ripped a shot from inside the box, but a Saint Joseph's defender blocked it.

Rhode Island also had the best scoring chance of the first half when a Saint Joseph's foul in the box gave the Rams a penalty kick in the 32nd minute. However, Donika Murray's shot was stopped by Bendon, who moved a step to her right to make the save.
