KINGSTON, R.I. – Rhode Island's Varsity 8 boat won the Resolute Cup for an 11th straight season, beating Boston College on the Charles River Saturday morning.
Rhody's top two boats both swept BC and Boston University. The Varsity 8 team of Danielle Wolf, Katie Shattuck, Kiana Anderson, Erin Sweeney, Dana Holland, Meghan Ellis, Allie Reilly, Kelsey Maymon and cox Karen Petrik finished in a time of 7:05.150, nearly two seconds in front of Boston University. Boston College was well off the pace, coming in more than 20 seconds after Rhode Island.
The Rams continued their dominant season with the Second Varsity 8 boat. The team of Mekenzie Mattheson, Courtney Harrington, Erika Pena, Emily Winslow, Maddie Van Ummersen, Ida Heggtveit, Brooke McMahon, Kelsey Williams and cox Lucy Moyes beat the 2V8+ and 3V8+ boats from BC, as well as the 2V8+ boat from Boston University. Rhode Island improved to 17-1 on the year in 2V8 races. The only school the Rams have lost to this season in 2V8+ racing is Syracuse, which is currently ranked No. 17 in the nation in the CRCA/US Rowing rankings.
Boston College won both the Varsity 4+ and Second Varsity 4+ races.
Rhode Island closes out the regular season next weekend in Worcester, Mass. against Holy Cross and MIT. It will be the final race before the Rams look to defend their conference title at the Atlantic 10 Championship in Camden, N.J. on Saturday, May 6.
