How it Happened
Rhode Island fell to Massachusetts 1-0 in a Sunday afternoon match at the URI Soccer Complex.
UMass had an aggressive start to the game, keeping the pressure on Rhode Island's defense for a majority of the first half. The Minutewomen took the first five shots of the game unanswered. A cornerkick from Alexa Elworthy put the Rams in scoring position in the 25th minute, but Aysha Bentick's header attempt went high over the net. Both Rhody and UMass finished the first half scoreless.
A cornerkick by Signe Schioldan sparked the Massachusetts offense, putting them on the board in the second half of the match. Kelly Marra connected with the ball and snuck a shot in past Brennan to give the Minutewomen a 1-0 edge that they held onto for the victory.
