Charlie Booth to Continue Soccer Career with FC Tucson

KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island men's soccer defender Charlie Booth (Concord, Mass.) has signed with USL League One's FC Tucson, announced Monday by the organization. Booth is the second Ram from this year's team to move on to a professional career as senior Stavros Zarokostas was recently selected by the New York Red Bulls in the MLS SuperDraft.

"We were very lucky to have Charlie spend his final year of eligibility with us here at Rhody," head coach Gareth Elliott said of the grad student transfer from Bryant. "He was a big part of why we finished the season with one of the best defenses in the Atlantic 10."

A strong, physical center back who is fearless in the air, Booth helped lead Rhode Island to seven shutouts this past season, as well as a 1.00 team goals against average. Offensively, he contributed a goal and an assist for the Rams.

"Charlie is a natural leader, which will serve him well at the next level," Elliott added. "We are excited to watch him continue to grow with FC Tucson."

FC Tucson opens its 2020 season on Saturday, March 28, at home against Toronto FC II. The team is scheduled to take on New England Revolution II at nearby Gillette Stadium on August 21.
