Rhode Island dropped a one-run battle against Pacific and then hung tough with powerful Stanford through five innings before the Cardinal erupted in the sixth inning to win via the eight-run rule Saturday at the DeMarini Ivitational.
Game 1 - Pacific 2, Rhode Island 1
After falling behind 1-0, Rhode Island was able to tie the score in the bottom of the third. Faith Musselwhite singled, stole second and moved to third on Caileigh Holland's single. Sami Villarreal followed with a bunt single that plated Musselwhite. Pacific got the winning run across in the top of the fifth when Kahwaty launched a solo home run to left field.
Game 2 - Stanford 13, Rhode Island 3 (6)
Stanford jumped out to a 7-0 lead after three innings, but Rhode Island stayed in the game with a three-run rally in the fourth inning. Singles by Ari Castillo and Hannah DeSousa were sandwiched around Erika Yeager getting hit by a pitch. With the bases loaded and one out, Cassie Swenson drove in pinch runner Skyler Rapuano and Yeager. DeSousa came in on a single by Erica Robles. The score stayed the same until the bottom of the sixth, when Stanford had a six-run burst to halt the game.
Inside the Box Scores
- Junior Hannah DeSousa singled twice and scored a run. She also recorded 15 putouts and two assists without any errors at first base.
- Sophomore Ari Castillo had a pair of singles.
- Sophomore Faith Musselwhite singled, scored one run, stole one base and had a sacrifice hit.
- Musselwhite is now 7-for-7 on stolen base attempts this season, matching her total from last season.
- Freshman Cassie Swenson had a two-run double against Stanford, Rhode Island's lone extra-base hit.
- Freshman Skyler Rapuano appeared as a pinch runner and scored against Stanford.

Rhode Island plays a single game against Stanford Sunday to close out its appearance at the DeMarini Invitational. The Rams play at 3:30 p.m. EST.
