Set Two – Saint Louis 25, Rhode Island 18
Rhode Island kept the momentum going early in the second set, winning four of the first five points. Saint Louis rallied to tie the score 4-4, and the teams traded points until 9-9. However, an 8-1 run for the Billikens that featured two Jillian Mattingly kills, two Rhode Island ball handling errors and two URI attack errors allowed Saint Louis to control the set and even the match. Set Three – Saint Louis 25, Rhode Island 20
Saint Louis dominated the early part of the third set, taking the first 10 points and cruising throughout. Emily Henken had four service aces during the initial run, and the Billikens never gave up the lead. The Rams managed to trim the lead to 22-16 following a
Claire Wagner ace, a SLU attack error and a
Brynne Wright kill. After a Saint Louis timeout, the Billikens slowed the rally with a kill, and the teams traded points until a Maya Taylor kill ended the set in favor of the hosts.
Set Four – Saint Louis 26, Rhode Island 24
A strong showing from
Claire Wagner (6 kills in the set) had Rhode Island in prime position to force a deciding fifth set, but the Rams could not take advantage. After a
Gillian Klise kill gave the Rams two set points at 24-22, Saint Louis scored four straight points to end the match. Emily Henken provided back-to-back kills to tie the score before Mak Hill and Jillian Mattingly combined on a block to set up match point. A Rhode Island attack error gave the Billikens the win.
