How it Happened
Second-seeded Rhode Island fell behind early and never managed to get back in it, falling to sixth-seeded Duquesne Friday night in the Atlantic 10 semifinals.
Â
Nate Dragisich put the Dukes up 1-0 just 10 minutes in, slipping between two Rhode Island defenders and firing a shot into the upper right corner from 20 yards out. The Rams had their chances at a first-half equalizer but attempts by
Patrick Agyemang and
Rafa Villanueva were stopped by Duquesne's Domenic Nascimben.
Â
The Dukes added another in 59th minute, when Zach Mowka knocked in a shot from in front of the goal mouth to make it a 2-0 game.
Â
Rhody cut it to 2-1 four minutes later when Villanueva sent a left-footed shot past Nascimben and into the back of the net. Agyemang and
Edvin Akselsen were credited with assists on the play.
Agyemang nearly knotted the score with six minutes remaining, but his header flick went just wide of the frame. Akeselsen tried to curl a shot inside the post two minutes later, but Nascimben made his third and final save of the night to preserve the eventual 2-1 victory for the Dukes.
