How it Happened
Rhode Island rallied back from an early 11-point deficit to take down previously undefeated Princeton 61-53 Saturday afternoon at the Ryan Center. The win moves Rhody to 5-0, giving the Rams their best start to a season since winning the first six games in 2002-03. The Tigers, meanwhile, suffered their first loss since Nov. 20, 2019, ending the program's 26-game win streak

It was a slow start for URI, which went just 1-for-12 during the opening quarter and trailed Princeton 13-2 through the first 12 minutes of play.
Chanell Williams then book-ended an 11-0 Rhody run that tied the score at 13-13 heading into the second quarter media timeout. It was back-and-forth the rest of the way as Princeton went into the break leading by one (20-19).

The Rams took their first lead of the game with 3:33 remaining in the third quarter when
Marta Vargas drained a 3-ball to put Rhody up 29-26. Princeton managed to get back on top just before the end of the period however, pulling ahead 35-34 on a trey by Abby Meyers.

Dolly Cairns scored 13 of her 15 points in the fourth quarter to help push Rhode Island to the finish line. She opened the fourth quarter with a layup that put the Rams ahead for good just 17 seconds in. A pair of made free throws by
Marie-Paule Foppossi extended Rhody's lead to eight (53-45) with less than two minutes remaining but Princeton continued to fight and got within four (57-53) with under a minute to go. Cairns and Williams both hit 2-of-2 from the line down the stretch however, effectively sealing the 61-53 victory.

- Redshirt senior Emmanuelle Tahane led the way with 16 points to go with a career-best 19 rebounds in a full 40 minutes on the floor.Â
- Sophomore Dolly Cairns scored 15 points and added five rebounds.Â
- Redshirt junior Marie-Paule Foppossi had 13 points and grabbed five rebounds while dishing out three assists.
- Grad transfer Chanell Williams was the fourth Ram in double figures, scoring 11 points. She added three assists and one steal.Â
- After shooting just 8.3 percent (1-of-12) in the first quarter, Rhode Island combined to go 20-for-33 (60.6 percent) the rest of the way.Â
- Rhody held Princeton to just 3-of-14 from 3-point range.
