How it Happened
Rhode Island dominated its season-opener, as five Rams scored in double figures to cruise to a 83-37 victory at Dartmouth Tuesday night.
After a back-and-forth start, the Rams found their rhythm and jumped to a 16-5 lead at the first media timeout. Rhody allowed just seven points for the Big Green in the first 10 minutes of play, ending the quarter up 22-7.Â
The Rams used that momentum into the second, as Chanell Williams scored 10 of her game-high 20 points, connecting on both of her attempts from deep. They went into the break with a comfortable 46-20 lead.
Rhode Island came out of the locker room picking up right where they left off, after Dez Elmore connected on back-to-back buckets to extend the Rhody lead to 30Â (50-20) at 9:14. They ended the third up 62-30.
In the fourth, Rhody held the Big Green to without a field goal until 4:47 remaining of the period. The Rams outscored Dartmouth 21-7 for the 83-37 final and to clinch the first win in the series since 2015.
