How it Happened
Rhode Island stumbled for the third straight game, falling at Buffalo 69-54 Sunday afternoon.
Buffalo (5-2) scored the first four points of the game and never relinquished the lead. In the first two quarters, the Bulls were 9-of-15 from the 3-point arc, using the perimeter to steadily build its lead. Summer Hemphill scored 10 first-half points, while Dyaisha Fair added nine – all on 3-pointers – and Georgia Wolley added eight points. The trio combined for 27 points and seven 3-pointers, helping Buffalo build a 41-29 lead.
The deficit stayed in double digits throughout the third quarter as Rhode Island (7-3) had six turnovers. It prevented the Rams from creating any momentum, as Rhody never scored more than four straight points in the quarter. URI started the final quarter hot, getting 3-pointers from
Emmi Rinat and
Dolly Cairns wrapped around an
Emmanuelle Tahane layup, cutting the Buffalo lead to 57-49. However, over the final 8:16, the Rams shot 2-for-11 from the field and were not able to get any closer. Â
