How it Happened
An explosive first half sparked Rhode Island to a 69-49 victory at St. Bonaventure Saturday, helping the Rams snap a two-game losing skid.
The Rams (9-7, 9-4 Atlantic 10) shot 60.7 percent from the floor (17-of-28), hitting eight 3-point shots as they opened a 14-point lead by halftime.
Marta Vargas was 3-of-4 from deep to lead the barrage, and
Marie-Paule Foppossi had 13 points to lead all scorers in the opening 20 minutes.
Rhody's defense kept things under control in the second half. URI limited the Bonnies to just 10 points in the third quarter, then held St. Bonaventure scoreless for the first 3:28 of the fourth quarter. By the time the Bonnies scored again, Rhode Island had a 60-41 lead. The Rhode Island lead was never challenged as the Rams coasted to the win.

- Redshirt sophomore Marie-Paule Foppossi filled the stat sheet. She led all scorers with 22 points, grabbed nine rebounds and had five assists. She also had one block and one steal in 27 minutes.
- Graduate senior Johanna Muzet had a double-double, finishing with 14 points and 10 rebounds. She added three assists.
- Freshman Catherine Cairns and senior Marta Vargas each made three 3-point shots. Cairns finished with 11 points, while Vargas had nine to go with four rebounds.
- Rhode Island outrebounded the Bonnies 37-24.
- The Rams also had an 18-2 edge in fastbreak points.
- St. Bonaventure did not attempt a free throw.
