Softball Splits Pair to Win Weekend Series Against Holy Cross

How It Happened
Rhode Island got its second walk-off win in as many days to help the Rams earn a doubleheader split Saturday afternoon. After dropping the first game 7-1, Rhody (2-10) came back and took the second contest 2-1 to win the weekend series.

Game 1 – Holy Cross 7, Rhode Island 1
In a game that was closer than the final indicated, Rhody led 1-0 through the first three innings, thanks to a solo home run from Alex Pleasic.

Holy Cross (1-2) got single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to take a 3-1 lead into the final frame. The Crusaders scored four in the top of the seventh, two of which came on an Erin Bengston two-run double, to ice the game.

Game 2 – Rhode Island 2, Holy Cross 1
Rhody loaded the bases with singles from Alex Pleasic, Ari Castillo and Susan Harrison before Cassie Swenson came up with two outs. Swenson lofted a high fly ball to left field that was dropped by the Holy Cross outfielder, allowing Pleasic to come in with the winning run.

Sophomore Piper Maguire went the distance for her second strong start of the weekend to earn the first victory of her career.
