How It Happened
Rhode Island got its second walk-off win in as many days to help the Rams earn a doubleheader split Saturday afternoon. After dropping the first game 7-1, Rhody (2-10) came back and took the second contest 2-1 to win the weekend series.
Game 1 – Holy Cross 7, Rhode Island 1
In a game that was closer than the final indicated, Rhody led 1-0 through the first three innings, thanks to a solo home run from
Alex Pleasic.
Holy Cross (1-2) got single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to take a 3-1 lead into the final frame. The Crusaders scored four in the top of the seventh, two of which came on an Erin Bengston two-run double, to ice the game.
Game 2 – Rhode Island 2, Holy Cross 1
Rhody loaded the bases with singles from
Alex Pleasic,
Ari Castillo and
Susan Harrison before
Cassie Swenson came up with two outs. Swenson lofted a high fly ball to left field that was dropped by the Holy Cross outfielder, allowing Pleasic to come in with the winning run.
Sophomore
Piper Maguire went the distance for her second strong start of the weekend to earn the first victory of her career.

- Sophomore Piper Maguire pitched 7.0 innings in the second game for the first complete game of her career. She allowed just four hits and one run while striking out a pair.
- In the series, Maguire hurled 13.0 innings, giving up four runs on 12 hits. She is now 1-1 in her career.
- Junior Susan Harrison had a big day at the plate, going 3-for-5 with a double, one walk and one sacrifice bunt.
- Redshirt senior Alex Pleasic had a home run, double, single and two runs scored on the day. She scored one run in each game.
- Senior Hannah DeSousa doubled, singled and had one RBI.
- Junior Ari Castillo and redshirt senior Erica Robles both had two singles. Castillo also was hit by a pitch.
- Redshirt junior Abby Fenbert delivered a pinch-hit single in the second game.

Rhode Island heads to Albany for a doubleheader Wednesday, March 24. The first game begins at 2 p.m.
