KINGSTON, R.I. -- The Rams continued to load up their roster this week, as head coach Tammi Reiss announced the signing of Texas A&M transfer Anna Dreimane to the Rams Sunday. The 6-5 center spent three years with the Aggies in the SEC after starting her collegiate basketball career at Colorado State. "I am so excited to welcome Anna to our Ram family," said Reiss. "She brings us much needed size in the post position."
The Latvia native has represented her home country 35 times in European competition, including an appearance with the senior national team at the 2017 EuroBasket Championship. While at Colorado State, she blocked six shots in her third collegiate game, the third-most in program history. "I love her ability to defend the rim and block shots," added Reiss. "Anna has a wealth of experience and has played in a championship culture." Dreimane blocked 11 shots in 16 appearances with Texas A&M her senior year, including a season-high three stops in the win over Sam Houston St.
Before her time at Colorado State, Dreimane competed in the Latvia/Estonia basketball league with the TTT Juniores from 2013-16, helping them to a third-place finish in the Latvian championship in 2016. She earned an All-Star selection after leading the team to a runner-up finish in the Vef Riga Superleague in 2016. Dreimane averaged 8.4 points over an average of 20.2 minutes per game at the 2016 U20 European Championship, including a 15-point performance against Greece. "Anna can score in the paint or with her face-up game," finished Reiss. "She fits the culture that we have began to build here at URI. She is just a terrific young woman who I can not wait to coach!"
