How it Happened
Rhode Island could not overcome an early offensive attack by Brown, falling to the Bears 3-1 Thursday night.Â
The Bears struck early when Brittany Raphino found the back of the net off with a tip in off a free kick by Lexi Quinn in the seventh minute.Â
Brown doubled its advantage 25 minutes later, when Miya Grant-Clavijo beat out two defenders and had a shot past Faith Hutchins to put the Bears up 2-0. Rhody was unable to generate any shots on goal in the first half, as a strong defensive effort by the Bears limited the Rams offense to just four shots. A cross from Sheyenne Allen found Lexi Quinn who struck it home for the goal in the 43rd minute, sending Brown into the break with a 3-0 lead.Â
Rhody got on the board in the 70th minute with a goal by Tali O'Leary. Rebecca D'Anna dished her a shot that found the back of the net for her first goal of the season. Tess O'Connell had the third shot on goal in the half, but it wasn't enough momentum for the Rams as time expired.
