How it Happened
The Rams extended their unbeaten streak to three games, drawing a 1-1 tie with Massachusetts on the road Sunday.Â
The Minutewomen got on the board first in the second minute of the game. Karina Groff had a shot that was initially stopped by Amanda Schafer in goal, but Groff connected on the rebound for her third goal of the season. The Rams answered with a Rebecca D'Anna equalizer to go in to the half 1-1.
UMass switched Bella Mendoza in goal in the second half, and the Rams applied offensive pressure right away. Alyssa Fleming had two opportunities that were saved by Mendoza, who had three second-half saves. A strong Rhody backline didn't allow a shot on goal for the Minutewomen in the second 45 minutes of play, forcing extra time.
Kelly Fitzgerald had a shot saved with the final seconds of the first overtime period to extend the extra time 10 more minutes. Neither team could find the back of the net in the second set of extra time, as the Rams preserved the tie to remain unbeaten in A-10 play.
