Set One – George Mason 25, Rhode Island 22
George Mason hit at a blistering clip in the opening set (.409), recording 12 kills on 22 swings with just three attack errors. The Patriots also combined for three team blocks, compared to zero for the Rams. Despite that, Rhode Island led through much of the set, and as late as 17-15. However a 5-0 run from there gave the hosts an advantage (20-17) which they never relinquished.

Set Two – George Mason 25, Rhode Island 15
Rhode Island did not lead at any point in the second set. With the score tied 3-3, Mason claimed five consecutive points, three of which came on attack errors by the Rams. The teams traded the next 11 points, putting the Patriots up 13-10. Mason then used an 8-0 run – which featured three aces and just one kill – to pull ahead 21-10. At that point, the deficit was too much for Rhody to overcome as George Mason eased its way to the 25-15 win.

Set Three – George Mason 25, Rhode Island 17
The Rams' attack struggled in the third and final set as URI combined for just six kills. Overall, Rhody had a negative hitting percentage (-.062) as the six kills came with eight errors. On the other side of the court, George Mason racked up 13 kills. Rhode Island had led 6-1 early on, but a 15-2 run by the Patriots gave Mason the lead for good. URI closed the gap to two (19-17) late but George Mason reeled off six straight points to finish things off.
