RHODE ISLAND VS. WAKE FOREST - SERIES NOTES

  • Rhode Island and Wake Forest are facing each other for just the third time in program history Thursday. 
  • The Rams have never won against the Demon Deacons, as Wake Forest has won the previous two meetings. 
  • The teams played each other in back-to-back years, with Wake Forest winning 92-62 on Dec. 28, 1987, and then 77-46 on Dec. 29, 1989.
  • Rhode Island is looking for its tenth straight win of the season, while Wake Forest is coming off a 67-58 loss to ACC opponent Syracuse.
  • Head coach Megan Gebbia is in her first season leading the Demon Deacons.
  • This will be the only ACC matchup the Rams see this season. 
  • Last year, the Rams picked up just their second-ever win over an ACC opponent, defeating Virginia 70-60. 
  • Rhody is 2-14 all-time against the ACC.
  • The Rams have played Virginia (1-3), Virginia Tech (2-4), Florida State (1-0), Duke (0-1), NC State (0-1), Syracuse (2-7), Clemson (0-1), Miami (2-0) Pittsburgh (1-0), and Boston College (6-6). The wins over Virginia Tech, Boston College, Syracuse and Pitt came before each school joined the ACC.
  • Junior Guard Jewel Spear was named a member of the Blue Ribbon Panel Preseason All-ACC Team. .

NINE W'S IN A ROWWWWWWWWW (AGAIN)

  • Rhode Island defeated Quinnipiac last time out for the ninth straight win of the season. 
  • The Rams have now gone 9-0 after dropping their season opener at Harvard.
  • Last season, head coach Tammi Reiss had the Rams on two winning streaks of at least seven games. 
  • She led the Rams to a 7-0 start, and later a 13-game win streak. Both were program firsts.
  • Reiss has now had four consecutive seasons stringing together a streak of at least four wins. She's just the second head coach to accomplish the feat, and the first since Nancy Langham did it '77-78 to '80-81. 
  • Reiss is the first coach in program history to have back-to-back seasons with win streaks of at least nine games. 

HIT ME WITH YOUR BEST SHOT

  • The Rams are ranked first in the Atlantic 10 in field goal percentage, shooting 46.6 percent from the floor to sit 27th nationally.
  • In the win over Hartford, Rhody had its best performance from the floor, connecting on 37-of-66 (56.1 percent).
  • Rhode Island opened the game against the Hawks shooting 9-of-13 (69.2).
  • Junior Mayé Touré missed just one shot in the win. She leads the Rams and the A-10 with a field goal percentage of 54.8.  
  • Touré is ninth in the Atlantic 10 with her 14.5 points per game average.
