BOSTON, MASS. — Four Rams were crowned champion on day one of the New England Indoor Championship. Rhody sits first with total of 63 team points, ahead of UMass (28) SCSU (17), AIC (16), and Maine (15) to round out the top five.
Day One Results
Champions
- Ben Fleischer was crowned New England Champion in the 5000 meter, crossing the finish in 14:26.48. The time sits third-best all-time and is the first career New England crown for Fleischer.
- Garrett Robinson won his first New England title in the long jump with a leap of 7.26 meters.
- Freshman Mason Brubaker finished first in the pole vault after clearing 4.70 meters at his first career New England Championship.
- Jide Akinjisola was crowned weight throw champion with a mark of 19.08 meters. It's Akinjisola's first career New England crown.
Prelims
- Three Rams qualified for the 200 meter dash final, with Liam Creeley leading the way in 22.37 seconds. Abraham Tambah (22.67s) and Jordan Ross (22.85s) also advanced to Saturday's final.
- Jarrett Young had the best prelim time in the 400 meters, qualifying for the final in 49.49 seconds.
- Collin Ochs had the top time in the 500 meter prelim, finishing in 1:04.47 to qualify for Saturday's final. Lucas Plaia (1:05.73) and CJ Kiviat (1:06.60) are set join him after posting qualifying times.
- Ianique Imboque (1:56.06) and Eli Baker (1:56.85) advanced to the 800 meter final.
- In the 1000 meter prelim, Tyler Rubush was second (2:34.34), Nathan Coogan was third (2:31.87) and Kellen Waters finished fourth (2:34.34). All three Rams qualified to appear in the Saturday final.
Finals
Hepthathlon: Day One
- Devin Donahue was first in the shot put (13.56m), second in the 60 meters (7.24s), third in the long jump (6.71m), and ninth in the high jump (1.68m).
- Ryan Tona won the high jump (1.92m), finished third in the shot put (11.69m), fourth in the long jump (6.60m), and fifth in the 60 meters (7.46s).
- Wyatt Lamell won the 60 meters (7.13s), and finished fourth in the shot put (11.33m), fifth in the long jump (6.53m), and seventh in the high jump (1.77m).
