How It Happened
Rhode Island rallied from a three-run deficit late to snap an 11-game losing streak with a 10-8 victory over Merrimack Thursday.
With her team trailing 8-5 in the top of the sixth inning,
Rachel Zingerman came to the plate with the bases loaded and launched a ball to the wall in left center. Because the runners had to wait to see if the ball was caught, Zingerman was held to a single, but
Emily Power and
Gabi Lopez scored on the hit.
The Rams (6-23) took the lead three batters later with
Vicki Viaclovsky delivered a two-out, two-run double to left field. Pinch runner
Ainsley Yoshizumi and Zingerman both scored on the play, putting Rhode Island up, 9-8.
Jessica Hennelly padded the lead in the top of the seventh with a two-out double that drove in Power.
Liz Lynchard (4-16) held Merrimack (6-17) scoreless over the final three innings to secure the victory for the Rams.
