How it Happened
Rhode Island saw its season come to a close in its second Atlantic 10 Tournament appearance in three seasons, falling 2-0 on the road at La Salle Friday night.
La Salle held possession for majority of the first half and drew two corner kicks in the opening 45 minutes of play, but no shots got past keeper Faith Hutchins. The Explorers outshot the Rams 6-1 to start the game, with majority coming from La Salle's Haley Gschrey. With the clock winding down in the first half of action, Cristina Sallent had a free kick that was stopped by the goalkeeper and the teams went into the break knotted at 0-0
The offensive momentum carried over in the second half for the host Explorers, who drew three corner kicks to start the second. La Salle broke through in the 74th minute, with a move by Gschrey at the top of the box to flip the ball over the head of the defender. She was able to corral the ball on her left foot and took the shot that was out of Hutchins' reach.
Nearly three minutes later the Explorers struck again, after Madison McCready set up a header by Emily Banashefski to the back post to put the game away and send the Rams home with the season-ending loss.
